Calculation Notes:

  • Current capacity (I) is estimated based on IPC-2221A guidelines:
    I = K × (ΔT0.44) × (Areamils²0.725)
  • K (constant): 0.048 for external layers, 0.024 for internal layers.
  • ΔT is the allowable temperature rise in °C.
  • Areamils² is the trace cross-sectional area in square mils. (1 mil = 25.4 µm; 1 oz/ft² ≈ 34.798 µm copper thickness).
  • Resistance (R) is calculated using copper resistivity ρ = 1.724 × 10-8 Ω·m at 25°C, adjusted for the conductor's operating temperature. Copper temperature coefficient α = 0.003862 /°C (relative to 25°C).
  • This calculator provides estimations. For critical applications, always consult the latest IPC-2152 standard and perform thorough thermal analysis.
